How do I find a structural engineer? Nothing in the 'Yellow Pages'

How do I find a structural engineer? Nothing in the 'Yellow Pages'

How do I find a structural engineer? Nothing in the 'Yellow Pages'

(OP)
Greetings,
After looking through the postings here I figure I need help with a project I am contemplating. I would like to 'finish'my basement and I have a post supporting a I-Beam about 1/3 of the distance into the space.  I would guess that it would not be a good idea just to take it out. After all, it only supports the first floor wall that supports the second floor. I did look through the local 'Yellow Pages' but nothing there on structual engineers. Any guidance on finding someone good? What certifications should I be looking for? No specific names please; just guidance on how to find someone. Thank you in advance.

try Engineers - Structural

or Engineers Consulting

Your local structural engineers association (SEA) might be able to refer you to SE's that do residential work in your area.  You can find contact information at http://www.seaint.org
