To B221 or B429?

To B221 or B429?

To B221 or B429?

(OP)
I have a supplier who has been providing aluminum tubes to B429(6063 alloy)aluminum.
He has asked why don't we use B221/6063?
I'm not sure I can find a difference...and if they are the same I will surely go with the cheaper B221.
We are talking specifically about 1/4" extruded pipe(B429) threaded.
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks

RE: To B221 or B429?

The difference is in the word STRUCTURAL.
The application dictates probably which specification is applicable.

ASTM B 221
Revision: 05      Chg:      Date: 06/01/05
STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR ALUMINUM AND ALUMINUM-ALLOY EXTRUDED BARS, RODS, WIRE, PROFILES, AND TUBES

ASTM B 429 - Complete Document
Revision: 02    Chg:    Date: 10/10/02
STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR ALUMINUM-ALLOY EXTRUDED STRUCTURAL PIPE AND TUBE
