MIL-HBK-5J doesn't give much on this alloy. Anyone know a source for the mechanical properties of 4140 in various conditions?

RE: AISI 4140 steel mechanical properties

The main mechanical property that will be applicable to 4140 in different heat treat conditions is ultimate tensile strength, which can then be converted to a hardness number. Then you need to determine if the heat process is capable of giving you the hardness you need with the section size that you have to work with.

RE: AISI 4140 steel mechanical properties

Try MIL-H-6875

RE: AISI 4140 steel mechanical properties

ASM Metals Handbook Vol 1 and Vol 4 have extensive information on 4140 properties in various conditions.
