Assembly mates ??

Assembly mates ??

Assembly mates ??

(OP)
I've only been using SW for a few weeks. I didn't know if it's normal in solidworks that when you change a mate in SW that thirty to fourty mate show up, and when I mated it the first time there were only three mates. Is there a way to make SW just show only three mates that define that part, because I don't need to see the other twenty-seven mates.

RE: Assembly mates ??

RMB Top level assembly - Tree Display:

View mates and Dependencies

This will list them under the part, however you cannot just list only 3 mates for that file. It will list all mates associated to that file.

You can place mates into a Folder that away you can have those there on the fly.

Highlight Mates, RMB, Select "Add Folder" and it will place them into a folder.

RE: Assembly mates ??

I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for.  But if you right-click a part in the feature tree, you can choose "View Mates" to see which mates refer to that particular part.

RE: Assembly mates ??

Right-click the top-level assembly, and pick "View Features" instead of "View Mates and Dependencies".  Typically if you pick "Part A" (for example), you should only see the mates for Part A below it in a folder.  There should be a Paper Clip symbol labeled "Mates" on the bottom of the tree with all of the mates in the top-level assembly listed.
Are you running SW 2005, and a SP 1.1?  I had that problem with SP 1.1, but haven't had that problem since upgrading to the latest SP.

RE: Assembly mates ??

Whether the view is set to View Features or View Mates & Dependenciers the mates you see [i]should[/b] only be the ones which relate to that part or assy.

If you are seeing ones which aren't related, then you definitely have a problem.

Can you post an image of your Feature Manager, expanded to show all the mates. (FAQ559-1100)

RE: Assembly mates ??

Hold control button down and select two items in the feature manager then select the center tab (property manager) and the mates between the two items will show as bolded text.

RE: Assembly mates ??

I went for a while before I discovered that there is a tab that switches you to Property Menager... this is where you go to see the mates of the selected part (not in the Feature Menager Design Tree, but one tab over)

Just like yanceman said, you can select two parts and the mates between them will show up as bold here.
