Assembly mates ??
Assembly mates ??
(OP)
I've only been using SW for a few weeks. I didn't know if it's normal in solidworks that when you change a mate in SW that thirty to fourty mate show up, and when I mated it the first time there were only three mates. Is there a way to make SW just show only three mates that define that part, because I don't need to see the other twenty-seven mates.

View mates and Dependencies
This will list them under the part, however you cannot just list only 3 mates for that file. It will list all mates associated to that file.
You can place mates into a Folder that away you can have those there on the fly.
Highlight Mates, RMB, Select "Add Folder" and it will place them into a folder.

Are you running SW 2005, and a SP 1.1? I had that problem with SP 1.1, but haven't had that problem since upgrading to the latest SP.

If you are seeing ones which aren't related, then you definitely have a problem.

Just like yanceman said, you can select two parts and the mates between them will show up as bold here.
