Are ASME SA36 Steel and ASTM A36 Steel the same material?

RE: Standards & Codes

I want to answer YES, but do not have a copy of the specs to verify that fact.  If they are the same, the ASME version will state that fact at the top of the first page.  It will state "This specification is identical to ASTM___" or something like that.

Per the 2003 Addendum SA36 is identical to ASTM A36/A36M-00a.

RE: Standards & Codes

They have the same chemistry and properties, but there may be differences in testing and documentation.
They are not interchangable.

In many businesses virtually all material is dual certified to the ASTM/ASME standards.
