Grease as sealant in gas valves
Grease as sealant in gas valves
(OP)
Good morning
I am interested in the use of grease as sealant in high pressure (60 bar / 900 psi) gas valves with diameter 4” to 36” for transportation pipelines.
We have been working with Cristensens PR lubricant No 711 and were able to reduce leaks in buried plug valves of 8”.
I have read the thread408-104-579 “Grease suitable for natural gas service”, but I would like to learn from first hand:
What types of lubricant do you use as sealant?
Is there any specification or guideline about selecting one of them?
Any special concern?
Thank you in advance
Costas

RE: Grease as sealant in gas valves
It is a PTFE base grease. I think is the best that you can find in Europe.
Another otion is greases from Tecnolubeseal (Italy)

the right link should be thread408-104579 (but you may take also a look at thread408-87784, just for information about perfluorinated products...): there I mentioned Manufacturers with which we are in contact and/or Products we are using.
In particular we use
- MOLYKOTE products from Dow Corning (http://www.dowcorning.com/content/molykote/);
but we also work fine with
- LubCon (http://www.lubcon.com/index.php?newlang=english)
and
- Ausimont, now SOLVAY SOLEXIS (http://www.solvaysolexis.com/locations.htm)
for "special" services.

Hope this helps, 'NGL

You can download the Nordstrom sealant manual from the website. It is a useful reference.

I do appreciate your effort to put logical order into the matter and agree with your distinctions.
