Conical Diffuser Calculation

Conical Diffuser Calculation

Conical Diffuser Calculation

(OP)
Dear All,

Could anyone tell me if there are any metric tables or graphs describing pressure gains for air flowing in a pipe of increasing diameter (i.e. a conical diffuser) at various flow rates.

I'm concerned with small diameters - 10mm to 100mm.
And flow rates upto about 0.25kg/s

Further to that, what is the effect of a swirling air flow?

Failing that, can anyone point me in the direction of a way of calculating it accurately?

Thanks for any advice at all.

RE: Conical Diffuser Calculation

Seems like my Fluids textbook had a chart of pressure recovery versus cone angle for diffusers.  In non-dimensional form, equally applicable to metric or other.  Based on incompressible flow, which might or might not be applicable to your case.

Thanks for the reply, that would be the sort of thing i'm looking for, but for a compressible flow.

RE: Conical Diffuser Calculation

My compressible flow textbook has a several-page discussion of flows and shock waves and all in diffusers- apparently, it's not a simple topic.  But no helpful charts or graphs.
