Section Properties: Face Selecting

Section Properties: Face Selecting

Section Properties: Face Selecting

(OP)
I have a part that has roughly 100 extrusions on it.  I need to take the section properties in an area where these 100 extrusions have no common face i.e. whenever I need to get the section properties of all of them at once, I have to select 100 different faces and "add" them all to the section properties box.

Is there a way to insert a plane and have the section properties for all faces intersection that plane be displayed?  If no that way, is there another way to accomplish this?

I have to do this a numerous amount of times, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance...

Jonathan

RE: Section Properties: Face Selecting

1
Activate the selection filter for surfaces. Put your part in angles that the selecting box can entirely pick only the intendend surfaces.

If you can't do it once, rotate the part and select another bunch of surfaces holdig the Ctrl key.

2
You can add an extrusion (a new body) which wrap arround all 100 extrusions. You must do it in a way that the gravity center of the extrusions and the new body are coincident (no problem if you have simmetry).

You can have the section properties of the new body.

Now subtract the extrusions to the new body. You can have the section properties of the body without the extrusions.

Calculate the expression:
(poperties of the extrusions)= (properties of the body)- (properties of the body without extrusions).

It seems hard to do? Until someone post a better idea (some selecion technic or macro?), I think it's better then selecting 100 surfaces.

Just not that the expression above is only truth if the gravity center of the extrusions are coincident!

In the last paragrph of my post, you should read "Just note that the expession....".

Wrong again!
In the last paragrph of my post, you should read "Just note that the expession above is only truth if the gravity center of the extrusions are coincident with the garvity center of the new body".

Thanks for the advice.  I've been messing with Intersection Curves, etc. to see if there are any other potential ways.  Anyone have any other thoughts?
