Electromagnet 0.5T
Electromagnet 0.5T
(OP)
I would like to use an electromagnet to generate a field similar to a magnet 1" face by 1" long and adjust field at face from 0-0.5T by adjusting DC supply.
I am finding it difficult to find supplier of suitable electromagnets. Most are holding magnets and have a core to concentrate field on one face. A wound coil should do the job if it had the right no of turns and could take current.
Any commersial electromagnets available?
Core on recommendation.
Current 3A, Voltage 30Vdc. Can get bigger power supply if necessary

RE: Electromagnet 0.5T
Do a google search for magnetic seaparation. The top hit can certainly do what you need.
You also need to describe your design a bit more. Specifically are you asking for a C shaped magnetic circuit having a square face of 1X1 inch? And your air gap, is that 1 inch as well? Air gap is the biggest factor in determining the coil requirements.
Your 90w power supply is not enough for a 1x1x1 air gap.
What's your application?

0.5T is at touching centre of face.
RE: Electromagnet 0.5T
#12 copper wire
110 lbs
1500 watts (This is not suitable for continuous duty without force cooling)
115 vdc
4" high or long
13.04 amps cold
3063 turn neatly layer wound
12.25" od
On a round core you might expect 5750 gauss (0.575T)on the surface.
1010 low carbon core

I am trying to design an electromagnet which will produce 350mT magnetic field, the power supply is 12V and current should be not more than 410mA, The size of electromagnet is a big issue for my device, so as small as possible, I never worked on electromagnets before so feeling some difficulties could any give me some suggestions please.
Mny Thanks

Why don't you start a separate thread on this please. And you'll need to be much more descriptive. 'Small as possible' is a goal not an objective. We design to objectives.

I need to know how to select the core material and size, number of turns.
there is no option on this page to start new thread, i am really new to engineering tips, so thats why.
Many Thanks
RE: Electromagnet 0.5T
Below is a 2D modelling package you could try on trial. You could put in shape and paramaters and it will give you a good idea of field strength for an electromagnet.
I found it gave accurate results
Very easy to use
