macPT:

I followed your suggestion.  But I am unable to show sketch picture in drawing documents.

Thanks,

Alex

PS
Your original post:

I will try to explain more in detail:

1 - create a part as you intend
2 - select a face or a plane
3 - create a sketch in that face or plane
4 - save the part
5 - create a drawing from that part
6 - create views in the drawing
7 - go to the manager tree
8 - select the view you want to see the sketch and explode the tree
9 - RMC the sketch
10 - select show

Now the sketch (of the part) is visible in the drawing view.

RE: Show sketch picture in SolidWorks drawing document

Make sure that you have view sketches turned on. You do that by:

View->Sketchs

Hi, Scorch:

"View sketches" was on.  But I still do not see the sketch picture in drawing views.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Alex

RE: Show sketch picture in SolidWorks drawing document

You can see vector sketches as per above, but as far as I know (SW2004) you cannot see a Sketch Picture in a drawing view. Leastways, I've never been able to.

You should be able to place an image, via OLE, into a view though.

Hi, SBaugh:

They both are on.  But I am still unable to the sketch picture.

FYI, I am running SW 2005 sp2.0.  OS is Windows XP Professional.

Thanks,

Alex

I know I can sketch on a picture.  But it will be nice if I can show a sketch picture on drawing views.  macPT claims that he can do it.  I been trying hard, but with no luck.

RE: Show sketch picture in SolidWorks drawing document

Rgray,

Why not just insert the picture into the drawing, and scale it to match your sketch. I know this is a roundabout way of doing things but at least you can get the same output. However, the sketch entities end up behind the picture and to bring them in front of the picture you will have to convert the sketch segments on the drawing view.

I use Insert-Object then select the Create from File button. Next browse out to the location of the picture and click OK.

I hope all this makes sense. If not I will try to clairify.

Best Regards,
Jon

macPTs method was for a vector sketch ... NOT a Sketch Picture.

Jon & CorBlimeyLimey:

Thanks for your clarification.  Apparently, you can only see vector (NOT pixel) sketches in SolidWorks drawing.

We design stencils of our customers' logos for our products.  It is not always practical to create vector sketches in models.  If you insert pictures into drawing views, you can only place them on views normal to the surface where the picture is supposed to be.

Imagine that you model a mug with a picture on its outside surface.  It will be nice to show the picture on drawing views.

RE: Show sketch picture in SolidWorks drawing document

Hi all! Here I am!

CBL is right. The method does not work with, for example, a jpeg picture.

But, depending on what you want to show, there are turn arrounds:

- import the image into the sketch and draw the sketch following the image; this can be easely done if you want to show a logo
- raster the image to convert it in vector image, when sketching over the image would be too complex; this was done to make signatures (which are now SW blocks).

Hope this helps!
