Why Am i have having trouble mirroring

Why Am i have having trouble mirroring

Why Am i have having trouble mirroring

(OP)
Im creating a basic sketch of a parrallelogram, but everytime i try to mirror it over a centerline it aint working. I want to mirror it in the front plane.

RE: Why Am i have having trouble mirroring

To mirror a sketch, the centreline needs to be in the same sketch.

It does mirror it, but when i try to mirror over a certain distance kinda of like lets say i want this letter

a         to be mirrored all the way here     a

with a centerline in between but it wont do it.

RE: Why Am i have having trouble mirroring

Make sure you're picking all your sketch segments you want to mirror.

Remember:
You cannot mirror construction geometry (dashed line).
You shouldn't have elements crossing your centerline.

After you select all the sketch segments you want to mirror, CTRL-Select the centerline (dashed line, construction geometry) that you want as your center, then use the mirror function in the Sketch toolbar.  It will work.

By definition, your centerline will always be centered between your mirrored geometry.

RE: Why Am i have having trouble mirroring

What is the distance? Inches, feet, miles?

RE: Why Am i have having trouble mirroring

If you can re-make the sketch, it's better to sketch the centerline, then activate mirroring and draw the sketch "directly mirrored". In that way the program automatically resolves potential mistakes such as centerline-crossing (it will prompt you), and you can add dimensions and constraints in watever part of the sketch, no matter "left" or "right" (of course, the symmetry is implicit, so be careful not to over-constrain your sketch...)

Thanks Cloche, I did not know that. Good tip.
