Just The Solid...

Just The Solid...

Just The Solid...

(OP)
I've got a quick question:

I'm working on a part that I ultimately need to perform a lot of section views and section properties on (mass moments of intertia, etc.)

Is there a way to save my part such that all of the data used to make that part is gone I am simply left with a solid?  Better said, is there a file format that is "stupid" - it doesn't know about all the 3-D sketches, etc.  I don't need to change or manipulate anything, I just want to take section views at I plane that I will insert.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated...thanks in advance.

Jon

RE: Just The Solid...

Doing a Save-as Parasolid format will give you a "dumb" solid part.
Just curious though, why do you need this? The part doesn't have to be dumb to make section views or get the mass properties, etc.

RE: Just The Solid...

You could export to parasolid and reimport.

You could create a new part and add an "Insert --> Part" feature.

The main reason for making a dumb part is for speed.  Taking section views takes at least 10 minutes if not longer to create.  50 foot object taking section properties every 20 inches, I need everything I can to speed the part up.

Will saving it as a parasolid help this out at all?  Thanks for the help thus far...

RE: Just The Solid...

Yes, you should see anywhere from a 30-70% decrease in file size.

RE: Just The Solid...

I wonder if inserting it into a new part then locking the external reference would speed things up? Then you could unlock and update it if needed. Seems like it should perform like an imported body as that's pretty much what it is, just linked.
