Maximum Point of Curvature

Maximum Point of Curvature

Maximum Point of Curvature

(OP)
I'm looking for a tool in solidworks that can tell me the maximum distance point on a spline from a baseline or plane.  Thanks.

RE: Maximum Point of Curvature

Geometric solutions:

In 2D, you can find the max by drawing a line constrained parallel to the baseline and then constraining it tangent to the spline in question at or near tha maximum.

In 3D, create a parallel plane that is on the "far side" of the spline from your base plane, then use your measure tool to get the distance closest to the offest plane.  Measure tool should give you the distance and the point coordinates.  (OT: Unigraphics had an option to create lines or points right from the measuring tool.  That was handy!)

I could be the world's greatest underachiever, if I could just learn to apply myself.
