(OP)
I have a couple questions about volumetric features if anyone can help.

What would you use a volumetric feature for?

Can't you do the the same in part design and more?

Is there an advantage to using volumetric features over part design?

Thanks in advance :)

RE: volumetric features

The only time I really use volumetrics is when the fillet function fails and I have to manually radius stuff.

RE: volumetric features

do you know how to convert a volume into a part design solid?

RE: volumetric features

lord - are you talking about V5 feature recognition?

It will take a dumb solid and build a feature tree for it.

RE: volumetric features

I am talking about converting a volume created  from the volumes toolbar in gsd workbench, inside a geometrical set and I want to convert it into a solid inside tha main partbody

RE: volumetric features

Hi,

Just like before when you had a JOIN in GSD, you 'convert' Volume feature in Solid with Close Surface from Surface Based Feature toolbar in PartDesign.

RE: volumetric features

Back to the original question: I was surprised to see volumetrics added to V5, and I don't see a need for them either.

The only reason I can come up with is someone must have requested it. Maybe they doesn't use Product Design (solids) and work only with surface models? Or they want to be able to convert their V4 volumes into V5 and be able to work with them?

RE: volumetric features

I suspect that it's there to please a certain large company that just implemented a very large number of V5 seats last year.  Same company requested HybridDesign.
