Dimensioning in SW2005 ?

Dimensioning in SW2005 ?

(OP)
I have a part that's a square. On this part I have have eight holes that are on a 2.375 dia from the center of the part. How do I relate the centermark dia inside the hole call-out. I don't want to just add text inside the dimension, what happens if my boss changes it.

ctopher,

That's exactly how my part looks, I just want to be able to relate that dimension. So when I dimension any one of those hole that you create it should display something like this:

.375 DIA (8 PLACES)
2.375 DIA EQ. SPACED

the key ctopher is that i want to relate the 2.375 to the hole call-out somehow. Would it be possible to do this in SW, I've done in Pro-Engineer for eleven years.

You can use design table to relate holes to DBC (diameter bolt circle). As far as I know, you can't dim the holes to make this callout, it has to be a note w/leader.
As for callout on dwg for holes, it should read, "8X Ø.375 ON Ø2.375 DBC, EQ SP".

RE: Dimensioning in SW2005 ?

In the drawing, go to View, then "check" the Axes.
Draw a circle, using the circular pattern axes as the center-point, and pick the axes of one of the holes as the second point of the circle.  This will make the circle coincident with the axes.
If the circle is not highlighted, pick it, and choose "For Construction"  This will change the line font to centerline.  Dimension the hole, for example: 8X Ø.375, then dimension the bolt hole center, such as  Ø3.
Now if the bolt hole center changes, so will the dimension of it.

instead of creating a sketch, insert the ceter mark, with the circular center mark option checked, then dimension to the center mark.

How would you pick the center of the bolt hole pattern on a square/rectanglular plate?

At rectangle sketch, select midpoint of horiz line & origin, vertical. select midpoint of vertical line & origin, horizontal. This will make your rectangle part centered on the origin. Then create you circle centered on the origin. This will also help with aligning rect/square parts in assemblies because the planes will be centered to the part.
In the dwg, add "centermark" to the holes and DBC. Dim distance of holes using centermarks.
Or you can use "Hole Table Template".

if you have the circular center mark option checked, and just start picking the holes, after two or three it will put the bolt circle in automaticaly.

RE: Dimensioning in SW2005 ?

Heckdogg, that is the fastest solution for this situation.  I had looked in the SW help files, but it didn't explain how to do it.

I can try to put something together today, but how do you guys post pics here, just post them to a web site and insert the address?
