RE: virtual memory

How much physical memory does your computer have and how large is your page file?

RE: virtual memory

(OP)
thanks for the reply

my physical memory is 2gig of ram and 4mb of swap file (papg file)

RE: virtual memory

The 3Gb switch will not really help in your case.

How large are your assemblies, number of parts, and your individual part sizes?

What other programs are you running while using UG?

hello looslib

my part files are around 70 to 100 megs and i have shut down eveything in the background and still the problem exist.

i think i might need to format and reload!!!!

thank all

RE: virtual memory

If you are working with a few 70 - 100 MB files then you are probably just simply running out of memory. Formatting and reloading won't help.

Back when we upgraded to NX1 our computers had 1GB of memory and a large page file but working on one 50 MB file would cause 'out of memory' errors. We upgraded to 2 GB of main memory and the problem went away. Fortunately for us the majority of our files are much smaller.

If you are editing the files, work on one at a time. If you are working in the assembly, try some lightweight reference sets. In either case more memory will help.

thanks for your help everyone

cowski i will try to talk to my IT department and see if i can get another stick of ram see if that solves the problem.

again thanks

RE: virtual memory

How many part files are you loading in memeory at the same time? If you are loading a lot, why so many?

To reduce the memory load of assemblies, try loading them with no components, then open the component you need to work on.

RE: virtual memory

I agree it should be a "physical memory" problem: Even if you have an enormous pagefile, Windows (even XP) often experiences problems when it has to flip memory pages from physical RAM to disk and vice-versa. Curiously, the problem seems to disappear if the system is forced to store anyway some data in the pagefile from the beginning.

ok yesterday i added new ram and all the problems are gone.
