Difficulty dimensioning edge of hole

Difficulty dimensioning edge of hole

Difficulty dimensioning edge of hole

(OP)
I have a tapered hole in a part. It is controlled by the large diameter at the outer edge and the taper angle. However, the outer edge has a radius on it since it is a cast feature.

I can't dimension the diameter. The dimension picks up only the tangency points of the radius. I tried to add a virtual sharp but could not find a menu item. I might have to add some points instead and then hide them after adding the diameter dimension.

Is there an easier, or right, way to do this? Thanks.

RE: Difficulty dimensioning edge of hole

If I understand you correctly you are trying to locate the center of the large end of the taper on its face?

What about inserting a center mark and dimensioning to it?

Or you could go to the feature in the feature manager and select "Show sketch".

Insert your dimension and the re-hide the sketch..

RE: Difficulty dimensioning edge of hole

Can you temporarily Show the sketch used to create the tapered hole, dimension to it, then Hide the sketch?

RE: Difficulty dimensioning edge of hole

The easiest solution IMHO is to sketch a circle in your drawing - assuming you can lock it to the center of your hole - then dimension the sketched circle.
The downside - if your part changes - you have to change your drawng sketch manually.
Sometimes we can't have it all...

jlwoodward,

To add a virtual sharp in a drawing file just control select the two edges and hit the point button.
