How to polish the SKH 51 by electrochemical polishing?

How to polish the SKH 51 by electrochemical polishing?

How to polish the SKH 51 by electrochemical polishing?

(OP)
I have some rollers made by SKH 51 material. Could i use the electrochemical polishing technique to polish the surface of the SKH51 rollers?
SKH 51 (C:0.8~0.9, Cr:3.8~4.5, Mo:4.5~5.5, V:1.6~2.2, W:5.5~6.7)

High carbon high hardness tool steels are not generally electropolished. It is reported that fatigue strength might be reduced.

In materials that are multi-phase you tend to get different attack rates when you EP.  The result is that while you might improve the microscopic texture of the surface you could cause some pitting at or arround one of the phases.

What size are the rolls?
Are they mounted of unmounted?

RE: How to polish the SKH 51 by electrochemical polishing?

(OP)
The size of the rolls( maybe should be called sticks) is about : 2mm diameter, 40mm length

RE: How to polish the SKH 51 by electrochemical polishing?

Let me look around my information for ways and means to do a vibratory or tumbling type polishing on the parts.   The are a lot of new processes out there using newer abrasives and diamonds.

How critical is the diameter?
What are the quantities that need to be processed?

This size component is normally call a pin.

RE: How to polish the SKH 51 by electrochemical polishing?

(OP)
These pins need to be etch some patterns on itself surface. So maybe the traditional way (like abrasive polish) is not suitable to apply?

the pattern's high is about 10um

the quantities i need is about hundred

Is there any efficiency way to do the process?

RE: How to polish the SKH 51 by electrochemical polishing?

Electrochemical etch.  You print the mask or pattern on the surface and then acid etch the rest away.
You might be able to laser scribe the surface to get the same effect.

I though I had sent this but it was about the time the site went down and it was lost in the ether.

It the same as EdStainless's reccomendation.

If so you will need to talk to people like the following.  Either ECM or Laser machining with Laser probably the best bet.
