CompositeCurve Surface Fill

CompositeCurve Surface Fill

CompositeCurve Surface Fill

(OP)
Why can't i use a composite curve as a boundry edge for the surface fill command.  I ended up created a 3dSketch (spline)on top of the CompCurve to use as the boundry edge.  What gives?

RE: CompositeCurve Surface Fill

Is it a closed boundary? If so, why do you need it to be a Composite curve?

On top of that a composite curve is not an eligible entity that SW will use for a fill surface command. The fill surface command require either edges, or sketches.

Yes, its a closed boundry.  However the boundry consists of over 250 edges. I tried to select the edges, but could not get the surface to work, so i created a 3dspline instead of click all the edges.  Select Tangency was no good.

RE: CompositeCurve Surface Fill

Is Loop selection an option?

Another thing to try:

Generate your composite curve.

Next create a 3D sketch and convert your composite curve.

Then select the 3D sketch as your boundry edge for the filled surface.

For some reason this seems to work for me.

RE: CompositeCurve Surface Fill

You can't use a composite curve, so you wil have to use a sketch or a combination of sketches and edges, as long as it's closed. If it doesn't accept it then it's not closed. It may looked closed, but it's not. And that could be a small factor that it's off by. So do check it from different views.

RE: CompositeCurve Surface Fill

Really?  You can get a 3D sketch to work as a boundary edge?  That's good to know, since I tried the composite curve idea with failure in the past as well.

Gildashard mentioned what I do with lots of edges.  Select an edge, then right click to select "loop" or "open loop" or "tangency" or whatever ends up working.  After you make your selection, then use the fill feature.  Works well.
