SHEAR DEFLECTION OF BEAMS
SHEAR DEFLECTION OF BEAMS
(OP)
Hi:
Roark's Formulas for Stress & Strain (p. 201 of the 6th edition, p. 167 of the 7th) quotes an equation for the deflection due to shear in which there is a factor 'F'. Values of 'F' for a selection of shapes are presented as well as a formula for 'I' or box sections. I need a definition of 'F' that will enable me to formulate it for any shape.
Can anyone help?

RE: SHEAR DEFLECTION OF BEAMS
there is no analytical formulas for the F factor (for general shapes) we can compute this factor by a finite element appraoch by computing differents energy quantities.
However, there are some software that compute this factor for any shapes to take account the effect of the Shear in beams deflection. you can take a look to the "ShapeDesigner V5.0" software, i think there is a demo version at www.mechatools.com. You input you section (draw or import you section in dxf format) and the software gives you the Factor F value.
thanks
James
