join 2 lines to an edge

join 2 lines to an edge

(OP)
Dear all
When I work with autocad mechanical, there;s a very useful command called "AMJOIN" which will join two lins or curves into a single line/curve or an edge. That's very helpful to reduce the time to extending and trimming jobs. I'm curious that how to perform this in Solidworks?

RE: join 2 lines to an edge

You can't join 2 lines into one within a sketch. You can make a composite curve using multiple sketches. But this Composite curve is great for paths in sweeps etc... it's not going to help you with trimming. If you want one line then make one line not multiple lines.

RE: join 2 lines to an edge

Too bad you can't simply make a fillet of zero and join 2 lines that way.  What you can do for lines though is use the Power Trim tool.  Start the Power Trim, and hold the Shift button down and pick the point of one line, and let go of the shift button, then pick the line you want to extend to.  You could then either extend the 2nd line in the same way, or if is too long, then trim it.

RE: join 2 lines to an edge

The only trick I can think of is, when extending a line to another, select "extend line", select the line to extend and drag your cursor to the other line. It will highlite, then let go the button. Do the same to other line.

RE: join 2 lines to an edge

Merge points!!!! relations

pick the two end points.....merge!!!

RE: join 2 lines to an edge

One problem with using merge for this case is that using merge will move your line/point instead of joining the 2 entities at the apparent/theoretical intersection.

How about Trim Corner?

RE: join 2 lines to an edge

if the line are constrained, i.e dim's or other contraints.......the merge will not move the line....it will bring the two points together at the apparent/theoretical intersection.
