Paralell Performance/Prcessing Issues

Paralell Performance/Prcessing Issues

Paralell Performance/Prcessing Issues

(OP)
Hi,
We started using Parallel Performance few weeks ago. Since then, we had some issues:
1. Often, when I read my model in, I can't see the parallel performance options in the solution options. The way around that I have been using is to read the example model provided with the parallel performance license and then resume from my original database.
2. If it happens that the solution does not converge, it does not give any error messages but rather keeps runing and running. If I click on stop from the non-linear box it does not stop and keeps running (actually only writing to the .stat file). The only way is to actually kill the process. Sometimes, I have so much dificulty re-runing the PP again after.
3. Sometimes, after a PP run, Ansys still thinks I am using it even if I uncheck the PP box in the interactive window.
4. I had difficulty mixing and matching between machines having 1 processor and machine having two processors. By the way, does any one know if the 4 entry in the hosts81.ans is maximum number of jobs on the machine defines on that line (as mentioned in ansys help) or the number of processors in that machine (as every one else says). This is same number that shows up in the select processor dialog box in solution options by the way.
5. Is it better to specify the databse memory in advance or leave it unchecked when using PP.

Thanks a lot.

PS, you can answer any one of the above questions even if you dont know the answer to the rest of them. Please specify the question number.
