Missing Configurations

Missing Configurations

Missing Configurations

(OP)
I recently loaded a large SolidWorks assembly and I got the following message...

"The following component configurations could not be found.

   "0008698.sldprt : Default
   "0008698-1.sldprt : Default
   "0021214.sldprt : Default
   "0021214-1.sldprt : Default

"The last active configuration will be substituted in each instance.

I understand the missing configurations part.  Someone renamed/deleted them.  What I do not understand are the -1 filenames.  Is SolidWorks looking for obsolete versions of the model?

RE: Missing Configurations

ctopher,

The files 0008698.sldprt and 0021214.sldprt are present, but the configurations are changed.  It is actually someone else's model, which I was incorporating into a design of mine.  The original designer is in for a surprise.  Loading the file with write access, then saving ought to work.

I want to know why SolidWorks is searching for the alternate filename.

RE: Missing Configurations

JHG,

This would be my take on the situation.  Somebody did a save as on a part while the assembly was open thus changing the part inside the assembly.  I would do what Chris is suggesting replace/reload and recreate the configuration in the part which should resolve the assembly issue.

I did something similar the other day deleted a configuration in a part and when I opened up the drawing that referenced that specific configuration it blew up.  So I closed the drawing then recreated the configuration.  I then opened up the drawing and everything was okay.  I was able to then modify the drawing.

Do you trust your intuition or go with the flow?

RE: Missing Configurations

Is it possible the parts in this assembly are derived or mirrored (or otherwise somehow referencing) the -1 parts?

RE: Missing Configurations

The "-1" naming scheme is consistent with the default names SW generates when automatically saving translated parts (such as when translating assemblies).  If SW's first choice for a file name already exists, it adds "-1"
