little 1kb files with tilde sign
(OP)
First off, I'm the occasional SW user. I usually reside in Mastercam, but when my designer is out I have to hack away in SW. Pardon any rookie-isms.
Why do little 1kb files generate themselves everytime I open a SW file (.sldp,.sldasm)? They have the filename of said file, with a tilde in front of it. Can I give them a destination OTHER than the source folder? or turn them off altogether.
thx

If everything runs smoothly, you do not have to worry because the SO erase these temp files when you close the files you have been working.
If SW crashes, the SO may leave some of these files. You can manually delete them (if you don't have working files opened).
I think OS always create these files in the same location than the files you open, so you don't have the option to change destination.
I think you can hide them if you change your file options to not show hidden files.

I those files are stored on your server then that must mean you're working on these files over the network? Maybe this is your problem! Do you have PDM works? with the ability to work on these files at the local level. A side note, what version of MasterCAM are you running? Do you take native SWx data or import IGES/STeP?

I pull the file off the network, and open it on the local computer with SW on it. Save back to the network when I'm done.
I live and die by Mastercam 9.1 sp2 . I prefer to use Mastercam's parasolid converter to bring a .sldprt right into Mastercam- that way I've got a solid in Mastercam. IGES and STEP bring in surfaces, which is ok....but you've got alot more options starting from a solid.
thx

RE: little 1kb files with tilde sign
The converter only supports basic features (extrude, revolve, etc). If your part has any lofts, sweeps, hole wizards, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc., the model that get's imported is all screwed up. The only way I've had luck using that add-in is selecting "import as brick solid" with no feature tree....which is the same as importing a "dumb" solid via parasolid.
Also, if I want to set a coordinate system in SW (ie, part origin or xyz orientation), I can import that into mastercam by saving it as a binary parasolid (.x_t) and selecting "output coordinate system". That is a very handy trick and much simpler than moving a part all over Mastercam to get the desired orientation.
RE: little 1kb files with tilde sign
I just check the "supported features" page, and it does list hole wizard as being supported. I've yet to have any reliable success with it. :(
thx.
