Importing into CAD

Importing into CAD

Importing into CAD

(OP)
I need to import a vicinity map and 200 scale topo into my CAD drawing.  I currently have hard copies.  What is the best way?  I can scan them as a JPG file, but the files are large resulting in my CAD daring being large.  I assume I can save the JPG as an ADOBE (will that me it smaller) and then paste the portiong I need into my drawing?  I have a scanner but dont have ADOBE writer.  Are there other options?

Thank you

Any help would be appreciated.  What I have is a JPG file that I want to import into my CAD drawing.  The JPG file is 2MB and I am looking for a way to add the information in the JPG file without adding 2MB to my drawing size.  I can add the information as a TIF, but it become unreadable due to tke lower resolution.

Thank you.

RE: Importing into CAD

Change the resolution of the jpeg
file if you may and then import it into cad

RE: Importing into CAD

corvette63,

The office that I am working in is in the process of converting fairly large areas of telephone company maps from paper to Cad. What we have done is have the drawings scanned as TIF files and use the IMAGE command to attach them. After we have finished tracing off what we need, we simply detach the TIF's. I just checked a couple of the TIF files and found one to be 96 KB while the other was 174 KB. These are not very large to attach, although I wouldn't attach a large number of them. Maybe this method will help you.

Changing the color depth of a raster image can help on file size. Do not use more than you need.

RE: Importing into CAD

Maybe you can try a raster / vector converter (Algolab is one I have seen) and save as .dxf file then scale it to real world units if needed and copy / Paste into your drawing.

RE: Importing into CAD

Using the reference toolbar, you can import JPEG files into ACAD.  ACAD considers these images not part of the drawing file and are listed in the reference manager.  These files should not eat up file size but be aware that you have to keep file pathways current or ACAD can't find the image.

Hope this helps,

John
