Intersection Sketchs

Intersection Sketchs

Intersection Sketchs

Any way to speed up opening and closing of intersection sketches?  Holy cow this is no way to be effective solidworks user.  Each sketch which does NOT have alot of intersection lines takes approximately 5 minutes to open or close.

A sketch that is derived from an insection of a surface or solid with the sketch plane.

RE: Intersection Sketchs

I am not seeing any slowing using intersection skeches on rotary compressors.  How complex is your sketch?

ctopher look at sketch tools/intersection curves

RE: Intersection Sketchs

It's purpose is the same as, say, Converted Entities ... just a way of creating geometry to produce other features.

Quote (SW_Help):

You can use the resulting sketched intersection curve in the same way that you use any sketched curve, including the following tasks:

Measure thickness at various cross sections of a part. (See steps below.)

Create sweep paths that represent the intersection of a plane and the part.

Make sections out of imported solids to create parametric parts.

To use the sketched curve to extrude a feature, the sketch that opens must be a 2D sketch. Other tasks can be performed using a 3D sketch.

RE: Intersection Sketchs

These sketches will take much longer to edit if you refer to geometry outside the part file (such as another part within another assembly).  I think this is because you need to rebuild everything in the context of the assembly to edit the sketch in your current part.  If you eliminate these external references (if that's what you've got), you should see a sharp increase in performance.

The trick lies in the face that refering to other parts' geometry is a primary reason for using this tool.

Hmm..Seems really convient to use in assemblies but slows tremendously.

RE: Intersection Sketchs

Can you explain the model a little more and the reason/method of using intersection curves? I use intersection curves a lot and cannot say that I have noticed an appreciable decrease in performance. Perhaps your assemblies are very large?? Can you post a screen shot and computer specs

If you are referencing external geometry, can you offset the aurfaces from the assembly instead of creating the intersection curves in assembly (if that is what you are doing)
