Solid Edge & PDM Systems - What do you use ?

Solid Edge & PDM Systems - What do you use ?

(OP)
Does anyone out there use a PDM or document management system with Solid Edge ?
If so what do you use, and how well does it work ?
The company I am working at has nothing - everything is 'managed' and stored using Windows Explorer and the Windows file system, although they do use ProjectWise for drawing issue.
With a mixture of Solid Edge and 2D AutoCad for different areas of the same project (which consist of thousands of parts) you can imagine the state of things around here.

RE: Solid Edge & PDM Systems - What do you use ?

Hi beachcomber,

I'm sure you do that already but I'm just making sure b/c it's not mentionned in your message : Do you use the revision manager ? (I know it's not PDM per say but it gives you a lot more tools to manage your CAD files than the Explorer windows).

For real PDM, I will let other answer but I'm sure many users have experience with Insight (PDM solution for SE based on a Microsoft platform)

Hi Fred,
Yes, I use revision manager to create copies, new revisions and rename parts etc. I am a contractor and unfortunately the permies here have a very flat learning curve and don't seem to have much idea how to use it (no disrespect to any permies on this forum intended).
There is no real CAD leadership or direction, and no system or adherence to procedures.
What I am askingfor here are views on Insight, Smarteam etc.
