As a novice user of AutoCAD LT 2000 (I'm a computer programmer) I need to link the areas of several polygons in a drawing to fields of an external database (say MS Access) so that when the area of the polygon changes the value on the database changes.  I can handle the database bit but I don't have a clue as to how to refer to the polygons or their areas on the AutoCAD drawing.  Ta.

RE: Need to link the area of a polygon to a field in a external database.

The way to make a polygon object to write its area and other attributes into a txt file is to write a ON CHANGE function into VBA project of the drawing. Information is found in VBA editor (Alt F11) Help files. Though so far I did not hear of feasible applications of this.

If you try and it works, maybe you could post the procedure as FAQ here. Would be worthy pioneering.
