Assembly Pattern

Assembly Pattern

Assembly Pattern

(OP)
I am using Catia V5 R13 SP8, I have several assemblies with crossmembers that are patterned.  I am aware that pattern is not available in assembly mode.  There are no hole patterns or other items that can be used with "use pattern".  Has anyone had any luck with using construction points to make a pattern, or using a dummy part with planes or points?

Any other suggestions?

RE: Assembly Pattern

As you say, you could construct a dummy part and put a pattern in that so that you could re-use it in an Assembly context.  I have also written a script here that allows the user to select a group of points and place instances on those points.  It was a moderately challenging script.  The biggest problem was that, unlike interactive placement, you have to completely specify both the location and the orientation of the instances, even though they may not be rotated - actually I think you can do position alone, but if you try to specify one rotation angle, you need to specify all of them.

Thanks for the help.  I will experiment with a dummy part.  Hate to use them as they make for rev problems and more files floating around to keep track of.

RE: Assembly Pattern

Your dummy part could always be tossed when you have your parts placed.  Once the locations are set, the CATProduct file will maintain their positions.  Only if your hole locations start moving will you have any problems.
