compression test on sand
compression test on sand
(OP)
A chemical has been developed for dust abatement, made up of polysaccharide, surfactant, mordant and water.
I have to perform a compression test on the sample (solution mixed with sand and cured). The resulting crust is similar to concrete, but not as strong. I have to test various concentrations of the solution and correlate compressive strength of the crust with concentration.
MY QUESTION: Does anyone have guidelines for the sample preparation (size, shape...) and testing?
We are using an Instron 5500R, which uses 2 disks for compression.

RE: compression test on sand
The equipment is shown in some of the larger laboratory supply house's catalogues
I’ve a million and one of the tests but the details have left me. The mold was between 2" and
2 1/2" in diameter and the amount of sand, either weight or volume, was determined by the test to be run. The molding sand was either pressed or rammed then pushed out of the mold for testing. You will probably need the split mold if they still make it.
