Viscoelastic material model

Viscoelastic material model

Viscoelastic material model

(OP)
Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of any ANSYS material model files for nonlinear materials such as polymers. I am trying to model the deformation characteristics of an epoxy pressed up against a rigid body. The nonlinear capabilities in ANSYS require input of data for curve-fitting - I don't have such data. I need a generic material model specifically for viscoelastic materials.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

icefea

RE: Viscoelastic material model

There is no such thing as "a generic material model" for any non-linear material, even more so when you go visco-#. For non-linear metal plasticity you might be able to get away with some sample data from a typical steel, but for visco materials (elasto- or plastic) you will end up with lots of numbers and pretty plots. If you manage to get hold of someone elses data, what would the answers mean, and how would you know what the data itself was derived from? What if your model was loaded multi-axially and the data was based on a single uniaxial data set? How could you justify your model?

Hi Drej,

Thank you for your reply. You are right, there is no such thing as a generic material model for viscoelastic materials. I perhaps should have phrased this differently. What I am in fact looking for is a library of material models for viscoelastic/viscoplastic materials. If I find a model for a polymer similar to the one I am trying to model, I will use this as a template and modify/agument as necessary. Do ANSYS have such a library of material models?

icefea
