Non chlorinated water as seal flush, why not?

Non chlorinated water as seal flush, why not?

Non chlorinated water as seal flush, why not?

(OP)
What is the reason for not using chlorinated water as seal flush water in pump seal?
Chlorine in water produce a little H+,Cl- and ClO-. Which one is harmful?
Thanks for replies

RE: Non chlorinated water as seal flush, why not?

If your seal components include 300 series stainless steels, and especially 316SS, the chlorides from the clorine in the water will attack it, and especially if the flow is stopped, (as in a stand by pump) and the clorinated water is trapped inside the seal.

Do a site search or go to the metallurgy and/or corrosion threads on this forum and you will find lots of info regarding chlorides and SS.  Bad combination.

Thanks rmw.
I like to know when they say "non chlorinated water", their concern is chloride (Cl-)in water or hypochlorite(OCl-) in water. If their concern is chloride, my water is salty water and already has chloride  at about 4000ppm.
