Lightning rods

Lightning rods

(OP)
Folks-
None of the houses in my community have lightning rods.  Is it like this in other neighborhoods or are the builders in our area just cheap?  Should I install one?  Is it worthwhile?

RE: Lightning rods

Most builders don't put lighting protection on houses unless it's specified by the owner. The decision is subjective. NFPA has a guide for evaluating lightning risk, but it is not free.

Your evaluation should include lightning frequency in your area, exposure (located on top of a hill, etc) and surroundings (tall trees or adjacent taller structures nearby).
