Question about Threads

Question about Threads

Question about Threads

(OP)
Does anyone have an example of a simple model with a cosmetic thread in it?  I'm trying to understand how they work and what they look like in Solidworks, but have been unsuccessful.  When I try to create one, I just get a 2D circle on the surface.  Is this all that usually can be seen?

Thanks for any help!

RE: Question about Threads

Yes thats all that can be seen in the model.

Any drawing view created will show the thread as per drawing standards.

If the threads do not show up in drawing ensure you have enabled cosmetic threads to be displayed,

go to - Tools, options, Document Properties, Annotations display.

Also go Insert, Model Items if needed and select threads.

RE: Question about Threads

Also, if you look at an exact side view of the thread you will see the hidden lines representing the depth of the thread.  This is how it will be represented on the drawing.

Are you all saying that cosmetic threads are only visible in drawings?

Thanks for the help everyone!
