"Areal" A real word?
"Areal" A real word?
(OP)
Is the word, "areal," meaning "in plan view," a word? As an example; "The areal extent of the uncompacted fill is not known with certainty."
The word does appear as an adjective in one very old dictionary, but in a newer dictionary (abridged), it does not appear at all. Has it declined in popularity? I hope not because it is very useful to me. What say you?

Looked my Collins dictionary. no "Areal" in it.
Did a google search found "Areal Density" some thing to do with computer disk space.
Will look up bigger dictionary in Library.
