Relay

Relay

(OP)
I want to find a relay that ideally is normally closed (but could live with normally open) that would switch a 350 VAC 650 HZ at about 1A.

This is to control an electoluminesent light off on demand.

Am rather stumped.

Help would be appreciated.

Regards:

Gins

RE: Relay

Most machine tool relays can handle up to 600V and 10A resistive loads - a highly inductive load would require some de-rating.

If you want something beefier, you can go to some type of lighting contactor.

RE: Relay

Any chance you can switch the line side of the lamp power supply instead? If not, you may be stuck with a vacuum relay such as is used in the RF world, like Jennings Technology. Serious overkill, but you have a tough spec.

RE: Relay

jraef is right - I totally missed the 650 Hz.

You might look into some type of mechanically-held contactor, but I doubt the coils will function well at that frequency.

There might be some 400 Hz military type relays that could do the job.
