Link to a Property (Configuration Name)

I am trying to make a drawing template with property links in the notes.  The note for the drawing name is linked to the part's name.  The note for the drawing number is linked to the configuration name.  I couldn't figure ho to link the configuration name.  I ended up setting a custom property named "Name" to each configuration and then linking that to the drawing (using $PRPSHEET:"Name").

Is there a way to link the configuration name so I don't have to add the custom property to each configuration?  I am using SW2001+.

RE: Link to a Property (Configuration Name)

try using $PRPSHEET:"SW-Configuration Name"  it should give you what your looking for without the extra custom property.

When I do that it comes up blank.  Was this something that was added in later versions? The help only lists SW-File Name, SW-Folder Name, SW-Long Date, and SW-Short Date.  When I click on the link to property button it lists some more options, but configuration name is not one of them.

CorBlimeyLimey; That's where I started.  Configuration Name is simply not there as an option.  I inserted a link to the part's File Name using the method you describe.  2001+ has "From model specified in sheet properties."  I guess I'm stuck doing it the long way until my company decides to upgrade, which probably won't happen any time soon.  I am the only who uses it, everyone else uses AutoCAD.

Anyways, thanks for the help guys.

RE: Link to a Property (Configuration Name)

I am recently returned to SW and eng-tips, so please be gentle with me. I had this problem, and so here is what I think I know:
If you are setting up a template which involves properties of the model you have to have a model loaded and be able to see the properties. However, the model does not get saved when you save as a drwdot file, so those properties are not available when editing the template next time. You have to open a model, make the changes you want, save and trust the properties will be available when you actually use it.
If you do not have a model loaded then model properties are not available.

While everything you said is correct, I don't think you understand what my problem is.  I insert an annotation, and click on "Link to Property". Then I click "From model specified in sheet properties" (2001+ wording).  In the drop down menu I get everything CorBlimeyLimey's picture shows except for "SW-Configuration Name" (I also don't get "SupplierPartNo" which I think is a custom tag made by him).  I think it was an oversight that was fixed in later versions.

RE: Link to a Property (Configuration Name)

Apparently it wasn't fixed in later versions because I am looking for the same thing in 2005 SP3.0.  There has to be an easy way to do this...has to be.
