Yellow Zinc ASTMB633 type 2 in holes

(OP)
Hi,
am I asking too much of this application to expect it to reach inside a dia 10 mm hole x 15 mm deep. Parent material is AISI 1008 Steel. What is the limiting "aspect ratio" or min dia hole?
Also, I see discoloration at the point of contact from the "hanging wire". I believe it to be from the colored chromating after the zinc plate. Does this mean that the plating has also not covered sufficiently to prevent atmosheric corrosion at the "hanging wire" point of contact?
Finally, if the chromate coloring covers the area that has has not been plated by the zinc plating, will this protect it in any form.
Regards

RE: Yellow Zinc ASTMB633 type 2 in holes

Yes, you are asking too much.

If there is no zinc plating, the chromate conversion coating will provide little corrosion protection.

Cory

What is an acceptable aspect ratio for electroplating of this kind? What is the recommended process for atmospheric corrosion in thin narrow holes that are inaccessible to electroplating?
Regards
