Bearing Failure/Elec Arcing

Bearing Failure/Elec Arcing

Bearing Failure/Elec Arcing

(OP)
I am seeing what I beleive to be a trend of bearing failures due to elec. arcing in some of our VFD driven motors. Does anyone have a link to some related articles so I could present a report to management to upgrade brg' types during rebuild?

RE: Bearing Failure/Elec Arcing

Hydrocarbon Processsing has articles on this as I recall
you have to ground the shaft

RE: Bearing Failure/Elec Arcing

Do a web search for electrical discharge machining. Check Siemans website, also seems like I read something on Reliance's website. EDM is probably going to get you plenty of info.

You can also search for the tech article "The Effects of PWM Voltage Source Inverters on the Mechanical Performance of Rolling Bearings" by Busse, Erdman, Kerkman, Schlegel and Skibinski. I found it to be very interesting.
