Toolbox Customizing

Toolbox Customizing

Toolbox Customizing

(OP)
We are trying to add part #s and descriptions to the toolbox parts so they appear in our BOMs the way we want them to.  When I export the list from Tools->Options->Data Options->Edit Standards Data to Excel, add our info, and import it back, nothing changes.  When I was showing this feature to another engineer last week, it updated when I imported it.
Anyone have any experience with this, any suggestions?

Thanks

RE: Toolbox Customizing

heckdogg,
My advice is to not to use the solidworks toolbox. All your going to do is give yourself a headache. The thing to do is create a part and make your configurations through design tables. Once completed, insert the part into the "Add My Parts Wizard". The parts will show up in toolbox when using assembly.

Please do a search on past threads for more info.

RE: Toolbox Customizing

What we do here is create a "Description" property that is in the Custom property tab of that fastener. Then we give it a general description like "Thru-Hole Standoff". Then when creating toolbox parts we make sure to list part by part number. All this does is creates a user-specified name for that particular configuration of the fastener.

This is how we like our BOM's to read. It lists the part number as the user-specified name for the configuration of that fastener, Then for the description it uses the general description as described above.

Best Regards,
Jon

RE: Toolbox Customizing

we are not concerned with a part number for the hardware we use, in the past they have left the part number blank in the BOM or made it a "-".  We are more concerned with the description (ex: SHCS 1/4-20X.075 for a socket head cap screw) and we know that there will be some who just create the part, not the description when they pull a part from toolbox.  About 98% of the hardware we use is of socket head variety so I may just go and create a part like macduff said, but there are a few who want to look into purchasing a third party toolbox to use, I am just worried we will still have the same problem.
