Video card question

Video card question

Video card question

(OP)
Ok I think I know the answer already...the answer is most likely "yes".

But...

I checked the SW webstie for approved graphics cards, and mine is not on the list.

Now that I've installed SW05, I've noticed that if I'm working on a larger assy, it goes all..."blocky" when I rotate the view. It goes back to normal when I stop rotating.

I've got a ATI Radeon 9200 pro.

I would think that this is my problem, no?

RE: Video card question

MmmmmMike,

Using a non-supported card is not a sin but you will not be fall under the forgiveness of the new Pope.

No, seriously, SWx Corp has gone to great lengths to test video cards to set a gold standard for the user base.

Do you trust your intuition or go with the flow?

RE: Video card question

This issue alone makes the difference between a smooth, crash-free system and not.  Blow the dough on a decent card, and you'll get to use the rest of your hardware to its potential.  Use a fast system with a non-approved card, and forget it.

Try turning on your OpenGL in System Options, Performance while SolidWorks has nothing open.

RE: Video card question

MMike1,

Large assembly mode has been enabled and this "blocky" type graphics is due to the "Level of Detail" slider in your options.  Check under Tools, Large Assembly mode and it has probably been enabled as you've likely gone beyond the threshold set in your default options.  That or your level of detail slider is set to block out parts to allow for easier rotations.

Hope this helps.

RE: Video card question

MMike1, give sworks a star, he's got the right answer.

RE: Video card question

And you'll still have the graphics card issue, if not an approved card.

All starred up....

Thanks! I think that may have done it.

I did look into the OpenGL thing. That option was under-intensified...
