PDM works

(OP)
We are now about 4-6 weeks in using PDM works, and I am likeing how it works, but I have some assys that I do not want modified in any way.  How can I lock down an assembly and its parts so that no one can edit the assy or parts,  i.e. I would like to make the assy and parts read only.

Thanks in advance.

RE: PDM works

Admin can change the settings so users can have "read only".

RE: PDM works

2 ways that I can see:

1. You could try creating a project that they only have read access to and moving them there.

2. Enable Lifecycle and create a "state" like "Released" in which they only have read-only access.

Ok I think that may be what I am looking for, these are assemblies with drawings, details and bom's that are finished and are in the process of being released and I want to make sure they don't get hosed at this point.

Thanks I will try this and see how it works.

tap90291,
Create a project called the top assembly number or if you use project numbers, that will work. Give yourself read/write to that folder, everyone else will have read only. You check-in all the files. Once done remove your read/write access and change it to read only. Your Admin will have read/write, so that if someone wants to change a file in the future the admin will have to move the file to a different folder.
Good Luck.

RE: PDM works

If you don't want to create a new project or move the files to a different project, you can just retain ownership of the files you don't want modified.

RE: PDM works

Yes, keeping ownership is one option. If you are a working PDM admin, like I am, you would have to create a different PDM log-in for frozen files. Because, if you use your working log-in and your frozen part is used in your large assembly you could check in the part without knowing it. Then your ownership is removed, depending on your settings.
