Proper Polished Rod Makeup

Proper Polished Rod Makeup

(OP)
Does anyone know the proper procedure for making up polished rod connections?  Do you use the same displacement card as for sucker rods?  Does API, or anyone for that matter, publish any recommended procedures specifically adressing polished rods?

RE: Proper Polished Rod Makeup

Make up torque for the Polish Rod is the same as for the the equivilant pin size sucker rod.  ie. 7/8" polish rod pin requires the same torque as 7/8" rod.

The MAJOR point to be aware of is the polish rod coupling is a special thread that has a 9 degree angle in the back of the thread. substitution of a regular rod coupling vs. a polish rod coupling will increase the chance of failure.
