Fem and Books

(OP)
Dear members,
as a relatively expert fem user,
i'm trying to understand how to apply fea to
pressure vessels.
My questions are:
1 - which fem code features (elasticity, plasticity, linearization..)
2 - where to find good handbook.
Thanks

RE: Fem and Books

To start - using FEA for vessels means that you are going to be using ASME Section VIII, Division 2, Appendix 4.  Buy a copy of this Code, and also search the web for books describing how to use Div. 2.  Be sure to get your hands on the Criteria documents for Div. 2 as well.

Once you've done that, I would take a look at WRC Bulletin 429.  Check out http://www.forengineers.org/cgi-bin/wrcbulletin/bulletin.pl?title=;author=;bulletin_nmbr=429;abstract=;category=0;sort=title;start_search=Search;action=view;mode=1;page=1;id=440;.cgifields=sort   for the paper.

There are also a large number of FEA-based papers that are presented at the ASME PVP conferences.  Check out http://store.asme.org/category.asp?catalog%5Fname=Conference+Papers&category%5Fname=Pressure+Vessels+and+Piping%A0&Page=1 for these papers (Note that only 2002-2004 papers are available on the website).

Another good document that discusses using FEA for pressure vessel analysis is API 579.  Check out http://apistandardsonline.api.org/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayPage&;Locale=en_US&id=ProductDetailsPage&SiteID=api&productID=33225300&Env=BASE but note that a new version of the standard will be released shortly.
