Use of molten lead to seal cast iron housing

(OP)
I need to bond molten lead to the inner diameter of cast iron housing. The molten lead will be poured in the housing and it will acts as a gas seal. Will it seal or do I need some platings or coatings? The operating temperature is around 400 degree F.

RE: Use of molten lead to seal cast iron housing

Lead has been used in the plumbing field to seal cast iron drainage pipes.

So there will be a seal, but whether it will be gas tight, I am not sure.

RE: Use of molten lead to seal cast iron housing

Do not forget the PPE in this task.  The fumes form liquid lead will exceed the PEL.
