installing X antivirus

installing X antivirus

(OP)
Hi all!

As we all know (and SW advises) we must disable AV to install SW correctly.

But the question is: is this enough?

I'm having problems with SW installation. I have found that successful installations ocourred after stoping all AV services (not just disabeling).

I also wonder if anti-spyware as the same risk to a successful installing as AV.

What are your experience.

I run McAfee Enterprise and MS AntiSpyware.

Regards

RE: installing X antivirus

I normally just disable the "Auto-protect" portion of the AV (either Norton or Panda) & have not had a problem. If you are running something like Spybot Search & Destroys "Tea Timer", then that will prevent registry changes being made by a program install & should also be temporarily disabled.

RE: installing X antivirus

If you have a Network AV running then just shutting it down isn't a enough. Unplug your network cable this help with your install as well. I make sure all apps running are shutdown before I install.
