Soil Mixing Information / Opinions

Soil Mixing Information / Opinions

Soil Mixing Information / Opinions

(OP)
Does anyone have experience with dry soil mixing in soft clay (medium plasticity, sensitivity 5-15)?  Would jet grouting be possible/appropriate

Is it possible to begin soil-cement columns at a certain depth below grade, similar to jet grouting, rather than at the existing ground surface?

Also, what is the maximum treatment depth below grade?  I've come across 30' as a rule, but am wondering whether 40 or 50 feet is possible.

I know this is a lot of questions at once, but hopefully someone can sort through it.

Thanks in advance!

RE: Soil Mixing Information / Opinions

grouterup,

need to know water content of soil.  dry soil mixing ususally works better with an adequate supply of ground water.  I believe that the columns can begin to be formed at depth while the tool is pulled to the surface.  Fairly new technology in the US so I am not too familiar.

Geocontractor,

The water content of the soil is approx 20-40%

If the columns are begun at depth, can they be stopped before reaching the surface or a different stratum?  We want to surgically treat this problem clay.
