DC Drive System

DC Drive System

DC Drive System

(OP)
Presently we are purchasing our DC drive systems. This system includes:
- Motors
- Drives
- programming
- transformers
- and start up

In order to save cost I'm looking at removing the motors and transformers from the Drive Suppliers supply. They are buying and marking up to us. Anyone had experience with this? If there's a problem would the motor manufacturer be blameing the drive and visa versa.

RE: DC Drive System

What kind of DC motor is it?  If it's a brushed DC motor then you wouldn't really even need a driver (more voltage makes it go faster) so that could save you some money there.  However, if you are using a brushless motor then you would need a driver since they are driven with a PWM power switching type drive.

RE: DC Drive System

It is common place to mix suppliers for motors and drives.  As long as the specifications are close there should be no problem.  Warrenty should hold as long as there is no specific exclusion to using other vendors for the motors and drives as long as the ,say, motor is appropiate for the drive.

RE: DC Drive System

We install drives all the time and have never had a problem
buying equipment from different suppliers. You just need to make sure that the transformers are large enouph and which type of DC motor your drives require.

RE: DC Drive System

Due to the general trend to move away from DC systems, there is a huge glut of excellent DC motors in the surplus/used market.  And often at very attractive prices.

Might want to have your favorite motor shop check for these before you buy new.
