Copying Assy's

How do I copy an assembly in solidworks if I don't have PDM Works. I have an assy I've been working on at home and I thought i had all the files, and you guys can guess what happen. I know how to do in PDMWorks at work but is there anyway to do it at my home?

2000mustanggtguy,

   Be very organized.

You can drop everything into one directory and methodically copy everything back and forth.  You will get the crap you do not want, along with your design, but who really cares.  PDM Works will sort it out when you get back to work.

RE: Copying Assy's

You can use "File --> Save As", got to references, and save the assembly plus all components to a new directory.

You can use "File --> Find References" to list all components.  From there, there is a button to copy all files.

I could be the world's greatest underachiever, if I could just learn to apply myself.

Use SW explorer.  It will tell you when a link is bad, where it's currently looking, you can fix it there, copy your assy, rename sub-components during the copy and it will update the links.  It's the best way to go IMO.

TheTick,

Thanks for that valuable post. I've been working alot home lately since my skiing accident, if you know what I mean. So my boss moved my computer into my house, so i create parts every day, so I have to leave my new parts in a certain directory structure so that all the engineering department guys can access my stuff. So sometime I have to copies assy's and I have no idea what thirty directories there in I don't have time to find all the new parts I've created or downloaded. So your'e little trick worked perfectly.

RE: Copying Assy's

If you rendered your project: Photoworks > Pack and Go > Copy Files and pick your location to save at.  The difference between "Pack and Go" and "Find References" is that "Pack and Go" will also copy all materials, decals, image files (.jpgs, .tiffs) etc.
