3 phase motor wiring

3 phase motor wiring

3 phase motor wiring

(OP)
Ive got a label stamping machine the motor has been disconnected and i was told that it was a 3 phase motor, there is no badge on the motor or machine.
I need to find out which wire is which, i have 3 brown wires and a earth to the case, the motor has the stamp AEI cast onto the end plate
inside ive got a1,b1,c1 and a2, b2, c2 the a1, a2 and a3 are all bolted onto a strip of metal between the contacts, the others are to the 3 brown wires
Is there a way of testing which wire is which onto my 3phase supply , if i get it wrong will it run the wrong way and i change the outer 2 to reverse it?
I know nothing about 3phase electrics , i have only connected them to the supply before , however i do all electrical repairs on our 1 phase molding machines with no problems, but 3 phase motors are a mystery
Is there a std wiring system for the motors a,b,c contacts ?
Help!

RE: 3 phase motor wiring

Hello fivestardistribution

The terminals you describe are a standard configuration with the windings connected in star. The three phase connections are the three brown wires. Connect to the three phase and if the motor operates in reverse, swap two wires over.
